SCAN Factsheets

Since 2018, EBN and TNO have jointly carried out the multiyear research program Seismische Campagne Aardwarmte Nederland, known as SCAN. The results of the SCAN-Aardwarmte project allow for a better estimation of the potential for geothermal heat production in the Dutch subsurface. To date, a total of 67 new seismic lines are available, which were acquired using modern techniques. Both TNO and EBN have used these seismic lines in several projects to update and refine subsurface models. This publication presents the interpretation of a selection of these newly acquired SCAN 2D seismic lines across the Netherlands. The longer-term ambition is to provide interpretations for all the lines. The interpretations are carried out at the stratigraphic group level and, where the resolution of the seismic data allows, also at the formation or even member level. By disseminating the interpreted SCAN lines, we hope to provide a harmonized starting point for further studies aimed at better geological understanding in selected areas.

This release includes interpretations of ten SCAN lines, with more to follow in future publications. The lines included in this phase are listed in the list below, and their locations are shown on the corresponding map. The PDFs provided here are layered, allowing you to overlay various data such as faults, horizons, and colors.

All interpretations on the SCAN lines follow the lithostratigraphic coding as presented in the stratigraphic nomenclator. It is important to note that these interpretations represent TNO’s current understanding and are subject to revision as new data and insights become available. They should not be considered definitive.
